Richard Boyatzis
Monday September 2, 2024
September has brought me continued interest in the evidence base for coaching interventions to create sustainable (and detectable) change, and the competencies of coaches themselves.
Pretty well anything by Richard Boyatzis is my read of the month concentrating on his more recent journal publications on thriving and surviving, and the competencies of coaches that result in client behaviour change.
I was also interested to hear that a compilation of his work, theories and reference base for the research of others will be published later this year, capturing some of the neuroscientific evidence behind interventions which produce sustainable changes in human behaviour. As a medic, I really welcome the evidentiary approach and, as with all research, want to understand both the findings and limitations of any one hypothesis.
Don’t be surprised if December’s read will be this new coaching reference bible!
For now try:
- Boyatzis, Richard et al. Competencies of coaches that predict client behaviour change. Journal of Applied Behavioural Science 2024, Vol. 60(1) 19–49.
- Boyatzis R E, Goleman D, Dhar U, Osiri JK. Thrive and survive: assessing personal sustainability. Consulting Psychology Journal; Practice and Research 2021 Vol 73No.1. 27-50.
Enjoy!
