Ethics and Confidentiality Declaration between Coach & Coachee
Confidentiality and ethical practice are of primary importance to me, and this short summary reflects the International Coaching Federation’s Code of Ethics as well as considerations around GDPR.
The Code for the Coach
In order to protect the safety and well-being of my coachee, as well as the integrity of the profession.
- I will facilitate my coachee in making choices that support their well-being and intentions and will not influence them in any way to take actions that are contrary to their values, standards, or personal boundaries.
- I will maintain strict confidentiality in my coaching relationships and will only share the content of these relationships: –
• Where I might be required in law to alert the authorities to illegal activity, or, pursuant to a valid court order or subpoena; or if there is imminent/likely risk of danger to self or others.
• Where, with the coachee’s express permission, the use of anonymised information for the purpose of teaching and training and development may be requested. This would be specific permission for a specific purpose.
(Coaching records digital notes and paper notes when made will be stored securely and will be subject to all relevant GDPR regulations) - I will responsibly disengage myself from any coaching relationship in which I find that I am not competent to serve my coachee or in which I am not upholding this code of ethics.
- I will only use my coaching relationships to further the intentions expressed in the coaching programme. Consequently, I will not initiate, encourage, invite, support, or engage in any intimate relationship of any form with my coachee.
The Code for the Coachee
In order to protect my own safety and well-being, as well as the integrity of my engagement with this coaching programme and this coach, I acknowledge the code of ethics and declare that I am well enough physically, mentally, and emotionally to take part in this coaching programme.
